The "Genesis" locomotive, also known as the General Electric P42, is a modern 4200 horsepower passenger locomotive that is widely used in both the United States and Canada. It has replaced the EMD F40PH in revenue service for Amtrak and is now a common sight throughout the United States.

Since their initial introduction, the P42 locomotives have undergone various physical modifications to enhance maintenance and parts replacement procedures. These changes include the addition of a bolt-on fiberglass nose panel, which replaced the original solid metal panel that was challenging to repair or replace. Additionally, a new rounded headlight bezel has been installed, replacing the previous square versions.

The locomotive is equipped with directional headlights and tail lights on both the front and rear, allowing it to function as both a standard pulling locomotive with double heading capabilities, as well as a push-pull engine. Illuminated pre-printed numberboards are also featured on the locomotive.

In terms of maneuverability, the P42 locomotive is capable of navigating curves with a minimum radius of 370mm (14 3/5″), which is equivalent to the R1 radius in Europe. The locomotive is powered by a brand new coreless truck-motor drive system, which is paired with a sturdy, solid metal body mechanism.
