Amtrak Dash 8 Phase III #160 with 50th Anniversary Logo

The modern 4200 horsepower passenger locomotive known as the General Electric P42 is widely used in the United States and Canada, particularly by Amtrak® for the majority of their revenue service. In 2021, Amtrak celebrated its 50th Anniversary by creating five unique paint schemes for its P42 engines. Among these, #160 sports a phase III paint scheme that was originally used on Amtrak’s “Dash 8” locomotives, along with the anniversary logo.

Each locomotive has been designed to honor Amtrak’s rich heritage and their vision of connecting communities, economies, and families nationwide. They are equipped with body mounted KATO magnetic knuckle couplers, directional Golden White LED headlights, and illuminated preprinted numberboards. Additionally, they feature a powerful five pole motor with all wheel electrical pickup and blackened wheels, as well as a DCC friendly mechanism.
