Amtrak Operation Life Saver #203 with 50th Anniversary Logo

The modern 4200 horsepower passenger locomotive, the General Electric P42, is utilized across the United States and Canada, with Amtrak® using it in a majority of their revenue service. See Tracks? This is the slogan of Operation Lifesaver, a rail safety education program that aims to educate people about rail safety and reduce railroad-related collisions, deaths, and injuries in the United States. In 2022, Operation Lifesaver partnered with Amtrak to create a special paint scheme to celebrate their 50th Anniversary. This paint scheme features high-visibility black and yellow colors.

The locomotive is equipped with body-mounted KATO magnetic knuckle couplers, directional Golden White LED headlights, and illuminated preprinted numberboards. It also has a powerful five-pole motor with all-wheel electrical pickup and blackened wheels, as well as a DCC-friendly mechanism. The General Electric P42 is officially licensed by both Amtrak and Operation Lifesaver (OLI).
