Kato USA Inc. N Charger Superliner Amtrak Starter Set

The Amtrak Starter Set in N Scale includes the ALC-42 Amtrak Phase VI #302, the Amtrak Superliner I Sleeper Phase VI #32052, the Amtrak Superliner I Coach-Baggage Phase VI #31021, and the Amtrak Superliner I Coach Phase VI #34055. It also comes with a complete oval of track (12 3/8” Radius) and a 24-3/4" x 50" Grade Crossing / Rerailing track, as well as a Kato Power Pack SX.

The model features body mounted KATO magnetic knuckle couplers, directional Golden White LED headlights, and illuminated preprinted number boards. It is equipped with a powerful five pole motor with all wheel electrical pickup and blackened wheels. The locomotives are DCC friendly with a pre-built speaker housing space in the fuel tank. You can also install an optional 11-211 Interior Lighting Kit to illuminate the prototypical see through venting on the side of the engine.

Kato’s new ALC-42 “Charger” model represents the Siemens Diesel-Electric engine as it has been ordered by Amtrak for long distance service. This model has an extended nose section, larger fuel tank, sandfill tank, and other internal modifications to better fit Amtrak’s needs for cross country travel. The brand new Kato model features totally new molding and design from the ground up, carefully replicating all of these details.

The smooth curves of the engine are precisely modeled to match the prototype, with a visible engine compartment beneath the engine’s distinctive large grill on the side. An interior lighting kit can be installed into the rear of the engine to duplicate the illuminated engine compartment from the prototype model.

This Starter Set is made in Japan and officially licensed by Amtrak.
