N Scale GE ES44DC Locomotive CSX Boxcar #5329 by Kato USA, Inc.

The GE Evolution Series of locomotives is manufactured by GE Transportation Systems and is designed to meet the U.S. EPAs Tier 2 locomotive emissions standards, which became effective in 2005. These Evolution Series locomotives are equipped with AC traction motors and are powered by a newly designed GEVO12 12-cylinder engine, which produces the same power as the 16-cylinder AC4400CW, but with fewer emissions and greater fuel economy. They also feature a redesigned air-to-air dual-fan heat exchanger, giving them an oversized radiator, which is a common identifying feature of these new locomotives.

Although the AC version has proven to be the most popular iteration of the GEVO, several railroads have chosen to utilize the DC versions, including the BNSF Railway, Canadian National, and CSX. The C4 is a variant of the ES44AC, using an A1AA1A wheel arrangement with an idler axle in the center of each truck, as opposed to the all-wheel power of its ES44AC counterparts. This design provides the engines with the stability benefits of a six-axle truck while reducing the number of traction motors from 6 to 4.

These locomotives come with a variety of body styles to match different railroad specifications, a powerful five-pole KATO motor with dual brass flywheels, directional headlight and illuminated preprinted number boards, illuminated ditch lights, and a Kato magnetic knuckle coupler.
